Maria Meihaus, INSTRUCTOR
Like many others, Maria began dancing at a very young age. Recreational classes were always a part of childhood until the age of 11 when she chose to take things more seriously. In Littleton, Colorado, Maria danced for years at Belliston Academy of Ballet, finally joining the Pre-Professional Scholarship program, focusing primarily on becoming a professional ballerina. Trained and tested in the techniques of Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Cecchetti method, Maria received intense ballet instruction while simultaneously practicing tap, modern, jazz and tumbling. Continuing in the Pre-Professional Scholarship program for 3 years, Maria also participated in the Denver Ballet Guild competition annually. Upon entering high school, Maria joined the Columbine Varsity Poms team and competed at the regional, state, and national level each season. Another 3 years of solely pom dancing and Maria was missing the intense technique and artistry that only studio training could offer. For her senior year, Maria went back to studio life at Shelly True Dance academy in Littleton, where ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, and tricking classes took priority. Competing again at the state and national level (Showstoppers, Move, KAR Las Vegas, etc.), Maria enjoyed the competitive dance curriculum for the entirety of high school. Currently attending CU Boulder as an MCDB major (Molecular, Cellular, & Developmental Biology) and dance minor, Maria enjoys her mix of academic and artistic challenges.
